Come join the Greenwich Youth Chorus in preparing patriotic songs for the Memorial Day Ceremony. This is a free opportunity and requires attendance at only a handful of rehearsals.
The Mecsey Bishop VFW has invited the Greenwich Youth Chorus to sing at the Memorial Day ceremony on May 29. This is a town-wide tradition that follows the parade. It has been successful for several years running, and is really quite a nice dedication to our service members.
Chorus Director Liz Kane (leader of Troop 94301) would like to open up the opportunity to all girl scouts in our SU who would like to sing, even if they are not in the GYC currently. It is free of charge and requires very little time.
The group would rehearse May 3, May 10, May 17, and May 24 from 6:00–7:00 p.m. at GES library. The concert is May 29 at Thomas Stewart Park Pavillion after the parade concludes, which is fairly early in the day. Students will get to perform My Country ’Tis of Thee (McDonald Arrangement), America the Beautiful (Schram arrangement), and Arlington by Hitzemann. (SPAC kids are excused on May 17.)
This is a very meaningful moment for music making and connecting with community. Brownies will earn their Making Music Try it Badge, Juniors can earn their Musician badge, and Seniors can earn Troupe Performer. (There is no Cadette music badge, but they will receive a fun patch.)
